While algae play a beneficial role in the aquatic ecosystem, their excessive growth can pose a threat to underwater life and humans. 

Algae are photosynthetic organisms that mainly live in water and do not have the intricate structures found in true plants, such as roots, stems, and leaves, yet they are capable of photosynthesis, generating oxygen and energy.
